There have been lots of creative opportunities this week as we have created our own version of Humpty Dumpty Sat on a Wall. Firstly all the children used different materials to make their own brick for the wall. Then we worked as a team to paint Humpty using different brushes and sponge rollers. Finally the children collaged his trousers and facial features.
It was lovely to see the children's faces when they saw their Humpty Dumpty on our class display on Friday. My favourite comment was "It's Humpty Dumpty. He is my friend" from a child who didn't know Humpty Dumpty at the beginning of the week. Super learning, Shooting Stars!

As well as singing the rhyme this week, we have also been creative while making our own sparkly stars. The children used different textured materials to stick onto a star shape and used words such as shiny, gold, yellow and sparkly to describe it.
Here is a photo of our class display of the rhyme: This week in nursery, we have focused our learning around the nursery rhymes Humpty Dumpty and Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. Being able to recite lots of nursery rhymes is such an important pre-reading skill.
The younger children have been learning to sing the rhymes and fill in the missing rhyming words when I pause singing. The older children have been learning to hear rhyming words through filling in the missing words in different versions such as "Humpty Dumpty sat on a chair, Humpty Dumpty combed his...…." They have also been making silly soup using rhyming words including cat, mat, rat, hat and dog, log and frog. All of us have enjoyed singing rhymes and playing our musical instruments to accompany the words. In the nature reserve today, the children enjoyed mark making on the paths using large chalks. Some children chalked their names, letters, numbers and shapes while others were great at chalking circles and lines. This was a great activity to develop our motor skills needed for writing. Great job, Shooting Stars!
For our baking activity today, we melted chocolate and then spread it on top of a bun. We then added sprinkles to the top before waiting for the chocolate to set.
I hope you enjoyed eating your bun. |
