For our baking activity today, we made chocolate rice crispy buns. Our learning focus was around melting and noticing changes. We looked carefully at the chocolate and the children noticed that it was hard. We talked about what we needed to do to the chocolate to make our buns and some children knew we needed to melt it and suggested using the microwave. Once the chocolate was melted, the children described it using these words: runny, dripping, sticky and wet. Finally the chocolate was mixed with the rice crispies and the mixture was carefully spooned into bun cases. At home time the children noticed that the chocolate had changed again- what a lot of Scientific thinking!
