As well as developing our scientific understanding of electricity and circuits we have also completed an investigation linked to this half term's enquiry focus of pattern seeking. Year 6s investigated whether or not their was a link between the width of a person's arm span and their height. The results were really interesting. Pupils decided how they would measure and record their findings. They analysed the data looking for patterns and use their findings to write up a conclusion.
This half term in Team AC, they have been investigating the statement that 'light travels in straight lines'. In addition to this, Team AC have been thinking of different natural sources of light and artificial sources of light.
This half term, Team JF have been exploring materials. To start off with, they identified a range of everyday materials such as wood, glass, metal, paper and plastic. From this, they were able to name everyday objects made from them. After much discussion, the children were provided with a variety of materials to sort into their own groups based on a category of their choice. In addition, children in Team JF developed their understanding further by identifying suitable uses for different materials and explained why they would be suitable. For example, a wooden rabbit hutch would be the most suitable because it is hard and waterproof. |
