This week we have been planning our own investigation linked to our science learning about light and shadows. We have also been working on this half term’s science enquiry PATTERN SEEKING.
The children worked in groups to generate an investigation question linked to shadows and how they are formed. We decided on the equipment we would use. We also chose appropriate methods to measure the shadows, which involved drawing around the shadows and measuring them. We collected our measurements and looked for patterns to help us draw conclusions. Head over to their page to see some amazing photos!

This term's science topic is light. We started by exploring what light is and why we need it to see. We then undertook a collaborative investigation to establish the direction of light travel. As part of our enquiry focus on pattern-seeking, we will examine shadows the next week to determine if there are noticeable trends in the shape and size of shadows. For Autumn 1's enquiry focus, Team AC investigated the big question ' Are you more likely to have bad eyesight and wear glasses if you are older?' For Autumn 1's enquiry focus, Team CH investigated the big question ' Do children with the biggest hands have the biggest feet?'  Team CH have continued to identify and name a variety of everyday materials. We then discussed different properties of a material and how a material is chosen for an object based on its properties. We discussed how it would be no good for wellies to be made from paper as it was not waterproof and all our feet would get wet and how it would be no could for reading glasses to be made from wood as we would not be able to see through them! We then learnt the names of key properties and what these key properties meant using MTYT. Our activity was to sort the bag of objects into the sorting circles based on the properties in each sorting circle.

In Science, we have been thinking about suitable uses for a range of materials and used our knowledge of properties to say why that material is good for the given object. |
