The classes in Y4 and Y5 went on a walk through Wombwell identifying a range of physical and human features. They identified landscape features as well as housing, recreational buildings, local businesses and local services. Children then had the opportunity to plot their findings on a map. They identified features on maps of Whitby and Wombwell.

We have been working hard to use a range of maps and atlases. We have been learning map symbols and locating points of interest on OS maps by 6 figure grid references. We have also been applying our map skills in the wider curriculum. We have located countries on a world map where Islam was founded and identified places we have been learning about during French lessons.
In Team CH we have been carrying out fieldwork in and around the school grounds. We have then been creating our own maps to show key features. We are exploring the 4 countries of the UK and learning the names of key landmarks and capital cities. We are slow working hard to learn new geography words and use them in our explanations and written work.
