​Throughout this term, we have focussed on comparing Whitby with our hometown, Wombwell. We initially worked on locating the two towns on a map, as well as other coastal and rural places we have visited. To compare the physical and human geography of Whitby and Wombwell, we used maps and the internet to look at the landscape and created land use maps to identify key areas such as agriculture, industry, housing, business, retail etc. Further to this, we created our own electronic travel brochures to encourage people to visit Wombwell. As part of our cross curricular links, we have read Dracula and we have also created several pieces of writing based on Convict’s Tunnel, Whitby Abbey and the Lundhill mining disaster. Finally, we also targeted our map and atlas skills during some discrete lessons based on longitude/latitude.

 Team GG have been exploring the geography of the rainforest. They have been learning where South America is on the map and how this influences the climate and weather.  The children enjoyed researching and presenting their rainforest weather forecasts.

We have been exploring Great Britain. We have discovered exciting mysterious creatures such as the Loch Ness monster which legend says can be found in Scotland. Loch is another word used in Northern Ireland and Scotland for lake! Wales have their own unique word for lake which is llyn. 
 
As we adventured through the north of Northern Ireland we found interesting examples of physical geography such as the Giant’s Causeway! 

Team JF have been working incredibly hard on their Geography topic ‘Exploring Europe’ . We have identified and researched a variety of European countries, their capitals and famous landmarks. From this, we have extended our knowledge of map skills by reading and locating four figure grid references.  
As the term progressed, we focused on the formation of mountains and rivers. Here we identified the features of them and explored the largest ones in Europe.
