This week in Team AC the children have been looking at the physical and human features of Brazil. The children's previous learning ahs been to recognise and understand the human and physical features of another country (South America). The children have been developing their map skills, by labelling the continents on a world map using their knowledge and by using an atlas to help.

Last week saw a cold snap here in Wombwell, with our children enjoying the snow. Team CW saw the chance to speak lots about the winter weather and what it felt and looked like. They went outside to explore the snow! Some of the children made mini snowmen by sculpting the snow by pressing and moulding it together. The children had fun exploring their footprints, rolling the snow into balls, making different shapes and trying to catch it on their clothes and on tongues! The children talked about what happened when it landed on different materials and what it sounded like when they walked on it. Here are some pictures of them exploring and having lots of fun!
In Team EO this week, the children have been learning more about the Arctic. The children have previously studied the seven continents and were able to remember all of the names of the seven continents! The children really enjoys singing the seven continent song, and it seems that this has really helped them remember each of the continents. Here is the link, should you want to listen again at home: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K6DSMZ8b3LE.
The children have been discovering what it is like in the Arctic, learning the names of various Arctic animals such as Polar Bear, Arctic Hare, Arctic Fox, Snowy Owl, Reindeer, Seal, Walrus and Husky. The children learnt facts about these animals and why they are able to live in such a cold place. They thoroughly enjoyed learning about the different animals and took part in a quiz, 'What animal am I?' later in the week to ensure their understanding about these beautiful Arctic animals. Team CB have been working very hard in Geography this half term, and this week was no exception! The children have been looking closely at the physical geography of the rainforest. They have been discussing in detail, the different layers within the rainforest and what plants and animals can be located in each section. The children have found this aspect very fascinating, expecially discovering all about the layers of the rainforest and the various animals that can be found living in each layer!
Team EO were very excited to see it begin to snow this afternoon. They spent some time looking at the map of England and the weather forecast! The children were able to recognise the United Kingdom and England and they looked at towns and cities on the map that were close to where they are in Wombwell! The children went outside into their outdoor area and spent time exploring in the snow. They used brushes to mark make in the snow that had settled on one their mats, but it soon melted so they moved on to mark making on the tables. Some of the children made snowballs by sculpting the snow and by pressing and moulding it together, and practised our throwing skills, by carefully throwing them onto the grass away from others. They explored their footprints and watched as they caught it on their clothes and in their hair! Team EO had lots of fun! |
