The children of Park Street have been continuing their Geography learning throughout the Autumn Term. I went on a learning walk around the classes and and have been looking at the amazing learning that has been taking place. The children were also enthusiastic in telling me all about their Geography learning in their class, and how in Team JF, Geography has links to their Science learning, and in Teams DB, JD and LF, the children explained how Geography has curricular links to Art and Maths, and WOW! the children amazed me! In KS1 the children have been exapnding on their knowledge about the United Kingdom and the local area; learning more about their local area and discovering the four countries of the UK. In Team CH, the children have a Geography station, as part of their provision, and have been developing their map skills using globes and atlases to explore the four countries. The children in Team JF have been on a walk in the school grounds to develop more of an understanding of their local area, looking at directions, before they move onto exploring compass directions. The children have also been exploring landmarks around the UK. Further down school in Teams AC and SG, the children have made geographical links in their history topic; where they have used maps and globes to identify areas of historical significance as well as identifying any land changes from the Stone Age to the Iron Age. The children have identified the location of Skara Brae and what life would have looked like at that time. The children used there ever incresing map skills to find the location and look at the difference in landscape as time has passed. In our Key Stage 2, Teams DB, LF and JD have been out and about exploring around Wombwell. Their main focus for their journey was to look in more detail at their local area, especially the routes around Wombwell, preparing them for creating their own maps once back at school. The children were making links to their recent visit to Whitby, as well as looking at the similarities and differences between the two localities. Just look at the children's amazing learning and their hard work! This week in geography, we decided that we would go out of school and have a look at our local area, Wombwell. We looked at the environment around us, we used our senses to describe what we had found and if things had changed, like the trees, the season and the weather. The children were fantastic! Well done Team JF!
