Before the holidays the Rainbows were learning about changes. They decided to observe some bread, a carrot and an orange from the snack area over time to see how they changed.
After a couple of weeks the Rainbows were excited to talk about changes they had seen. They were surprised that the bread didn't look any different but it felt a lot harder. They described the carrot as "brown" and "mushy" and noticed that the top of the carrot had started to sprout and was growing leaves. We talked about moisture in the bag and that the bag was placed in the sunlight. The final piece of fruit had changed the most. The Rainbows described the orange as "green and white" and "fluffy." They learnt the word "decompose" and know this means that the fruit is breaking down into parts and has changed to be mouldy. They spoke about how important it is to not to waste food and eat it before it starts to change and break down/decompose. The Rainbows thought the mouldy food looked disgusting!

As part of their history learning, Team JF had the exciting opportunity of experiencing a 'Great Fire of London' workshop. The day started in the hall as they interactively explored the timeline of events. From this, they split into groups to complete a carousel of activities. These included games, quizzes and they even had the chance to re-enact life during this time! The children thoroughly enjoyed the day, made some great memories and enhanced their knowledge of this time! The gentleman was also VERY complimentary of their behaviour too! Well done Team JF!
The Rainbows revisit their learning lots and lots to help consolidate it so they can move their learning on. Learning is revisited within lessons, throughout the day, at the end of the week and throughout the half term. Rainbows display a learning journey in the classroom that showcases some of their work including writing, photographs of their learning and pieces of artwork.
These visual aids help the children to remember the skills they have used and the knowledge they have learnt so they can explain their learning. They can see how their learning has progressed as they have developed their knowledge and skills, and how much they have achieved over a day, week, month, half term, term and school year! Here is their display from last half term where their topic was "Magical Storyland." Although Team CH have been focusing on their art skills, it has been great see their history shining through in their work.
They have been learning about the Great Fire of London over the past few weeks and have been studying what the houses looked like in 1666 and the materials they were made from. In art they have produced some fantastically detailed paintings of how they think the fire actually looked. In these paintings you can see how secure their knowledge of historical buildings are with the wooden frames and designs. This week Team CH have been learning about chronology.
They have constructed a timeline of events that detail the order of things that happened before and during the Great Fire of London. They have been able to talk through this with their partner and include key topic vocabulary, give reasons and discuss the evidence that shows this happened. Wow! Where do we start with Team JD's amazing WW1 day! They had such an amazing time and would really like to thank Mr Fidment for such a passionate, fun, hands on and down right dirty experience.
As you can see from the photos, they had the best time and had such big smiles (and lots of dirt) on our faces! The children really felt like were soldiers and got stuck in with all the activities set for them! Working as a team and creating such memories! Making the dens and working together really gave us a sense of confidence, patience and problem solving! |
