On Wednesday 22nd February Team LL and AF visited an Exhibition in Experience Barnsley. Joann Fletcher (Barnsley lass) who is a world famous Egyptologist worked with the museum staff to develop an exhibition showcasing some artefacts from the tomb of Tutankhamun. As well as finding out about the ground-breaking work of Joann we also learnt more about Howard Carter’s amazing discovery of the tomb.
We also learnt about Ernest Jones (also from Barnsley). We discovered years before the find he had stumbled across the name Tutankhamun whilst carrying out archaeological work in Egypt. He shared this information with Howard Carter and it is widely thought that this was the spark that ignited the search for the tomb. Children had an amazing day exploring the artefacts. We also enjoyed a workshop where we made amulets, uncovered artefacts, played senet and had a go at creating artwork and hieroglyphics on papyrus. A fab day had by all.

Today's assembly focus was on the significant person from the past: Anne Frank. Many of our Park Streeters dressed as Anne Frank on our History Day and so we decided to find out a little bit more about her, her childhood and family and what made her and her family fight for their freedom and what they believed.
We linked this to the British Value 'Individual Liberty' and talked about how she fought for hers, with her family. We discussed how she must have been very resilient and determined and she is a reason why schools like Park Street celebrate uniqueness. We will continue to celebrate her this next week as we look at Women's Day. Today Team JF and Team CH were incredibly lucky to visit Bolsover Castle and could identify lots of features they had learnt about in class. They started off by walking around the castle grounds, stopping at each point to recognise what the space may have been used for and linking back to the existing knowledge they had from school. As they were lucky enough to have the sunshine, they also found a great spot in the fountain gardens to sketch part of the castle. The children produced some FAB sketches and they had really thought carefully about the detailing in the stone work. The whole of Team JF had incredible listening skills during our trip. They were an absolute credit to Park Street. They followed all instructions first time and made our day the best! Thank you Team JF the adults are VERY proud of you all!
Here are some of the inspirational people Team JF taught their friends about. See if you can recognise who they dressed up as. Do you know any facts about them?
Team DB had a great day learning about significant individuals from history. They shared their facts from home and voted for the best costume and person who was most interesting to learn about with the most interesting facts.
See if you can spot Mary Anning, Albert Einstein, Jane Austen, Florence Nightingale, George Hearst, Abraham Lincoln, Lewis Hine, Sir Nigel Gresley, Coco Chanel and Anne Frank. Here are some of the amazing inspirational people that Team CH have been teaching their class about today.
There were some amazing costumes including Rosa Parks who Team CH have previously learnt about. What an inspirational lady! Today in school every class has celebrated inspirational figures from history. Everyone researched a historical figure at home and brought 5 or more facts to share with their class. There were some AMAZING costumes and some very inspirational characters that changed the world in such positive and significant ways. Each class voted for their favourite costume and the inspirational figure with the most interesting facts that they enjoyed learning about the most. There were lots of important themes and concepts that were explored and discussed including women's rights, democracy, monarchy, inventions in technology and healthcare, invasion and society and culture including changes in clothing, transport, trade and daily life.
The History Ambassadors voted for the teacher with the best and most accurate costume. Congratulations to Miss Crossfield for her fantastic Cleopatra costume and to Mr Davison for his fantastic Roman Emperor costume! Here are some of the adults in school dressed as their inspirational person or as a person from an era that had many positive impacts on our world today. See if you can spot Jane Austen, Edith Cavell, Frida Kahlo, Dian Fossey, 1960's hippies who oppose violence and war and a member of the Home Guard from the 1940's amongst others! Team EO had lots of fun dressing up as their chosen inspirational figure and sharing lots of interesting facts about them!
Some of our inspirational figures included Florence Nightingale, Edith Cavell, Geoff Hurst, Dr Alex Fleming, Neil Armstrong, Cleopatra, Pablo Picasso, Pele and Anne Frank! We awarded two certificates, one for the best and most accurate costume, and one for the person who was most interesting to learn about and had the most interesting facts, well done to Cleopatra and Dr Alex Fleming! Here are some of our inspirational figures and our interesting facts! Team AC had a wonderful day when they took part in the school Inspirational Figures in History Day. There were some amazing costumes and characters represented in Team AC and the children enjoyed finding out about each others inspirational people. See if you can work out who they are!
We had an AMAZING day in school today, full of fun and learning! Children and staff were invited to use their creative thinker skills and come to school dressed as someone significant from the past, to celebrate our knowledge of History!
Each child joined in and we saw some fantastic outfits - as well as some very creative ideas! All of the children were expected to come with 5 new facts about their significant person, to share with others, so as they too could learn more about more people! In Team HG we had a brilliant time sharing our knowledge of our significant person. We had information about Florence Nightingale, Boudicca, Emmeline Pankhurst, Abraham Lincoln, Queen Victoria, Julius Caesar, Captain Tom Moore, Marcus Rashford, Isaac Newton, Neil Armstrong, Spartacus, Al Capone and Cleopatra! |
