Team AC have been learning to develop an awareness of the past through research and discussion. They have used the internet to find out about the topic through research and have begun to describe and explain the changes that happened throughout the stone age to the iron age.

Today in our Monday whole school assembly, we have studied the famous person, Bruce Lee.
We learnt all about Bruce Lee's early life and what motivated him to become a legendary and champion martial arts expert! We learnt all about how he was resilient and fought for his own personal liberty, jumping from success to success in a range of careers from martial arts to action film superstar! We related this to the British Value of 'Individual Liberty', as Bruce fought for what he wanted and aimed to succeed in all he did, enjoying huge success. We also spoke about resilience and bouncing back from mistakes, changing the course of our lives, just like Bruce Lee did! We know that learning about other people's lives from the past can us help shape our own future! Today in our Monday whole school assembly, we have studied the famous person, Captain Sir Tom Moore!
We learnt all about Sir Tom's early life and what led him to be the massive supporter of the British health services, that he was. We learnt about his own visits to Hospital and how their help meant that he had an incredible amount of respect for them and what they do for the country's people. We learnt that it was because of this respect he felt, which caused him to want to raise money for them when they had to be on the front line, during the COVID-19 pandemic. What an inspirational role model! We owe so much to people like Captain Sir Tom who helped make many positive changes and changed people's attitudes during such a terrible time for many. He helped bring people closer together, and the world needs many more people like him. Today was the first history ambassadors meeting and it was lovely to meet together! All four ambassadors are keen to promote history through school and share their passion for the subject. Our plan for the next few weeks is to collect the pupil voice questionnaires and find out what Park Street children think about history. We will feed this back to teachers and make a plan depending on what the children say. The ambassadors are keen to support younger children with their learning and are looking forward to our our school history dress up day for significant individuals from the past. The ambassadors would like to get involved teaching KS1 classes about their character and will visit the classes to teach them about them and answer their questions. Below are questions answered by the ambassadors, and you can see what a fantastic asset they are to our school. Next week the children will be receiving their badges in assembly! ![]()

Team CH are enjoying their new history topic about castles. They have been learning about Stirling Castle in Scotland. The children have learnt new vocabulary and know the names of the different parts of the castle and have been able to demonstrate their knowledge to draw their own castle design!
Within their pictures they have drawn parts including towers, battlements, a portcullis and a gatehouse. They have talked about what each feature of the castle was for and how it helped them to defend themselves. Here are some of their drawings containing castle features! Team CW have been learning that things change over time and are excited to take part in an experiment.
Firstly, they discussed what happens when we don't eat food and leave it. They wanted to see what happened if they left a piece of bread straight from the packet, and also if they touched another piece bread with their unwashed hands. They hung them up to observe carefully with magnifying glasses. This lead to another discussion about what happens to our fruit waste when we don't eat it and throw it into the bin. The children asked if they could do another experiment and watch how individual pieces change over time. They decided they would like to observe a strawberry, banana skin and half eaten apple. They placed them in clear bags and sealed them tight and hung them up to observe over the next 10 days. They can't wait to see what happens! Children in Nursery have been beginning to learn about how things can change over time.
The children have planted some bulbs and are going to check on them every day to see how they are changing. We are looking forward to hearing more about their learning and what they can see happening. Team HG have voted for their history ambassadors to join the two previously voted by Team DB.
Our brand new ambassadors are.... Xander and Ellis! We are also really looking forward to working with these two hard working, enthusiastic, passionate and dedicated learners and can't wait to see how they use the role of history ambassador to share their passion and support history learning through school. Both Xander and Ellis have a strong work ethic and are incredibly kind and caring which will make them excellent role models when supporting younger children in school with their learning. They will be receiving their special badges in an assembly very soon! Year 2 and 3 have completed their pre unit assessment for the Stone Age to Iron Age topic which shows their prior knowledge and skills, key vocabulary and questions they have about this topic they would like to find out about.
Team DB put forward their names to be history ambassadors across school. They all listened to what the role will involve and shared why they think they would make a good ambassador.
The class voted and our new history ambassadors are....... Edie and Elissa! These girls are perfect for the role and are hard working, determined, conscientious, imaginative and innovative! We welcome both of you and are looking forward to hearing your ideas and seeing you flourish within this role! |
