In today's multi-cultural and diversity assembly we have focused on the significant person from the past: Anne Frank. Many of our Park Streeters dressed as Anne Frank on our History Day and so we decided to find out a little bit more about her, her childhood and family and what made her and her family fight for their freedom and what they believed.
We linked this to the British Value 'Individual Liberty' and talked about how she fought for hers, with her family. We discussed how she must have been very resilient and determined and she is a reason why schools like Park Street celebrate uniqueness. We will continue to celebrate her this next week as we look at Women's Day.

This week Years 1-3 and 4-6 have held assemblies to focus on Online Safety, with Mr Holmes and Mrs Longden.
Our younger children listened intently to how to keep themselves safe on line and took this issue very seriously. Mrs Longden gave a special shout out to Team JD who gave some excellent ideas and suggestions in the assembly, fully engaging themselves on the importance of keeping safe and looking after ourselves and others. With this being a very important issue for young children and their families, we will continue to hold key stage assemblies after each half term holiday, so as we are continually ensuring children are reminded of the importance of keeping themselves safe. I was blown away by our youngest children in school today, when I watched their oracy poetry performance of 'Pancake Poem'. They had worked so hard to remember the words and the actions, as well as showed outstanding confidence to present it to others.
At Park Street, oracy is very important and we try hard to make as many opportunities as possible for our children to present back their ideas, learning and work to others, as well as practise their speaking skills. Well done Nursery, you have set a very high standard for our other boys and girls to match! A BIG well done to Team CH and Team HG for their strong attendance rates this last week!
Team CH - 99.2% Team HG - 99.2% Whole school - 96.9% - WELL DONE PARK STREET! SO CLOSE! Remember our target is 97% - let's go for it this week Park Street! A HUGE well done to the Park Street team for their efforts with attendance and punctuality. Our current rates are excellent and some of the strongest within the Trust. Well done and THANK YOU! We had an AMAZING day in school today, full of fun and learning! Children and staff were invited to use their creative thinker skills and come to school dressed as someone significant from the past, to celebrate our knowledge of History!
Each child joined in and we saw some fantastic outfits - as well as some very creative ideas! All of the children were expected to come with 5 new facts about their significant person, to share with others, so as they too could learn more about more people! Each class chose representatives to win the 'best costume' award and also 'the person they want to know more about' award, based on the information they learnt from others! In Team HG we had a brilliant time sharing our knowledge of our significant person. We had information about Florence Nightingale, Boudicca, Emmeline Pankhurst, Abraham Lincoln, Queen Victoria, Julius Caesar, Captain Tom Moore, Marcus Rashford, Isaac Newton, Neil Armstrong, Spartacus, Al Capone and Cleopatra! We can't wait for our next dress-up day! Thank you to Miss Clementson, Mrs Allen and our History Ambassadors for organising for the full school! Today Year 6s have had an amazing experience with visitor Balbir Singh. She came along to work with the year 6s and provide a dance experience which also allowed them to explore the written work of Macbeth by Shakespeare.
This was a wonderful opportunity for the children and one which they thoroughly engaged with and enjoyed! It is yet another example of our recent GOLD Art's Mark Award being exemplified! Team AF and Team LL enjoyed a wonderful experience at Experience Barnsley this week, where they also visited the Cooper Gallery. They went to learn more about Ancient Eygypt and look at first hand evidence from Ancient Egypt. The staff there were particularly impressed with the children's knowledge of Ancient Egypt already!
Well done Year 6! Mrs Longden was very proud of your behaviours for learning, the questions you asked and how amazingly you listened and took all of the learning in! Also well done as Mrs Fitchett was so very impressed with your Ancient Egyptian art work too! This February half term we have been notified that Park Street has managed to succeed in gaining GOLD in the Arts Mark Award once again!
This is an award we have held now for 12 years and one which we are incredibly proud of! A HUGE well done to our Park Street TEAM of children, who have a real thirst for the Arts. Also, well done to Mrs Longden and Mrs Fitchett who have showed dedication and passion as Art Leaders in school for many a year and never fail in ensuring our school is at the forefront of anything art related. As a team we are very passionate about the Arts as we believe that these areas of learning can give the children the pride, self-esteem and confidence to go on to become resilient and powerful adults. WELL DONE PARK STREET! A BIG well done to Team and Team for their strong attendance rates this last week!
Team AF - 99.2% Team LL - 98.4% Whole school - 95.2% - WELL DONE PARK STREET! SO CLOSE! Remember our target is 97% - let's go for it this week Park Street! A HUGE thank you to Barnsley's Captain Allotts charity, who have recently donated money to school. We will be spending this money wisely on the children of Park Street.
A HUGE thank you also for our additional funding, which our Governor, Mrs Chavan, applied for! This money will be spent on a table tennis table, which a few of our children have been fundraising for this academic year! This helps the children brilliantly in their endeavours of leaving a table like this as their legacy for Park Street! Thank you for brilliant community team work, this means a lot to the Park Street TEAM! |
