This week is Antibullying week and, to start the week, all the children and staff were invited to come to nursery wearing odd socks! We had a circle time where we looked at everyone's socks and we talked about which were different and which were the same. We discussed how everyone is different and that being different is okay.

Today on our welly walk, we enjoyed exploring our mud kitchen. The children found lots of natural ingredients to add to their creations and the children were very creative with their cooking. We had lots of soups, pies, cakes and hot drinks! There was also lots of turn taking involved as the children learnt to share the equipment.
Today we made our own special snack- rainbow toast! We mixed food colouring with milk and then painted our bread using different colours like a rainbow. Once it was toasted, we were able to eat it for snack time. Everyone really enjoyed eating it!
We worked together today to make a large rainbow with cellophane, The children learnt to stick the cellophane down and talked about the colours and texture as they worked. Our rainbow is on display in the nursery window so the sun can shine through.
This week in nursery, we are continuing our colours theme with a focus on rainbows. Today we began by learning the song "I can Sing a Rainbow" with Makaton signs for the colours. We talked about the different colours of the rainbow and their order and we learnt the colours indigo and violet.
Our book of the week is Noah's Ark because at the end, God put a rainbow in the sky as his promise to never flood the world again! Here we are getting busy learning in our continuous provision so far this week: As a focused activity today, we worked together to create our own rainbow made of our handprints! We talked about the colours so we could get them in the right order, just like in the rainbow song. This was a great sensory experience as we explored the feel of the paint on our hands. Some children liked it and some were not so keen but they all had a go. Look out for our beautiful rainbow on display in the nursery window.
Remember, remember, the 5th of November!
Our learning all week around Bonfire Night culminated today in a celebration in the nature reserve on our welly walk. Firstly we explored the nature reserve and collect sticks of all different sizes to build a bonfire. There was lots of teamwork and helping each other to carry the larger sticks and branches. Once we were happy with our bonfire, we all sat around it and sang the bonfire night songs we have been learning during the week- with actions! Then we all enjoyed a delicious hot chocolate and marshmallows around our "fire." We spoke about being safe on Bonfire Night and how dangerous bonfires and fireworks can be. The children all know they must stay well back with a grown-up if they go to a bonfire. The children in nursery really enjoyed creating a firework dance together. Firstly. we watched a firework show on the computer and we talked about the colours, sights and sounds. Then each child had a ribbon and we practised different moves using our whole bodies. Finally we curled up small and then blasted off to "Firework" by Katy Perry. Look how engaged all the children are in our photos!
Here are some photographs of our displays which we have created this week. The children have been so creative!
Today for our food activity, we made edible sparklers. There was lots of learning in this activity! First we melted the chocolate and then dipped a breadstick into it. We had to use our fine motor skills to dip and then move the breadstick around so the chocolate would stick to it. Then we dipped it into some sprinkles. It was quite tricky to get them to stick and we had to twist, turn and roll the breadstick. using our hands and fingers- a fantastic fine motor opportunity as well as developing our concentration skills. I hope you enjoyed eating it, Shooting Stars!
