Today we rolled out a large sheet of black paper onto the floor and the children used crayons and chalks to create firework patterns on a large scale to music. This was a great opportunity for them to develop their physical skills as they drew circles, lines, zig-zags, spirals and swirls.

Today the children in nursery have had lots of fun working together to create a big painting. We used a long roll of black paper and brightly coloured paints to create fireworks in the night sky. The children used brushes to splatter and drop the paint onto the paper to create different effects. They also used pipettes to carefully squeeze and then drop paint onto the paper. This was great for developing their fine motor skills. Finally they sprinkled glitter on top to make it sparkle.
We are going to use our fantastic creation to make a display in our classroom- I will post a photo when it is completed! Our new song of the week is "Five Little Fireworks." We will be singing the song together at group time and then we have resources in the Maths area so the children can sing the song and act it out with their friends as they play. Here are the words to the song so you can sing it together at home.
Five little fireworks standing in a row, Five little fireworks standing in a row, When one little firework decides it's time to go........WOOOSH! There'll be four little fireworks standing in a row. Continue singing and take one away each time until there are no fireworks left. We are learning to show the amounts on our fingers and then find one less by taking one finger away each time. To link in with our colours theme, our core book for this half term is "Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What do you see?" This book has a very repetitive structure so the children will be able to join in and learn the words. We will be reading the book lots over the coming weeks so the children become really familiar with it. In our reading area, we have multiple copies of the book so the children can enjoy sharing it with their friends. We read it for the first time today and, afterwards, it was lovely to see some children reading it with their friends independently. We love stories in nursery and this is definitely going to be one of our favourites!
For a focused activity today, the children had a go at creating fireworks using different collage materials. They chose the materials they thought would best represent the fireworks and then learnt how to stick them onto their paper using glue. There was lots of talk about how to stick the different materials so they didn't fall off and we also described the materials using words such as shiny, sparkly, glittery and colourful.
Welcome back to the second half of the Autumn term in nursery, '
This half term, our new theme for learning is "Sparkle and Shine" which is all about colour and light. This week we are focusing on Bonfire Night. Today we looked at some different firework pictures and talked about the different colours, shapes and sounds. The children described the sounds using words including bang, boom and pop. We also introduced the words woosh and wheee! At group time, the children enjoyed pretending to be fireworks. They curled up in a ball and then blasted off into the night sky making the different sounds and shapes with their bodies. We have enhanced lots of our provision areas linked to this theme. In the mark making area, we have black paper and chalks which the children have used to create their own firework pictures. They drew different patterns including swirls, spirals, stars, zig zags and lines. In the painting area, the children had glittery paint and used cotton buds to create different patterns. We have also had glittery dough with sequins, glittery gloop to explore in our sensory tray and glittery water, Here are some photos of us learning in our provision so far this week. |
