Wow! All the children in the Arts Council were totally blown away with the number of entries we received for our Autumn Poetry competition. We spent a long time today reading all you poems and looking at the fantastic art work and illustrations too. We now have 5 entries that received full marks after we judged them. We are going to ask Mrs Lawson to choose the final three. The standard has been really high. We have designed certificates and every pupil that has entered will get one. There may be a little treat for everyone too. The three winners will receive arty goody bags and get to read their poems out at our Harvest Festival next week. Well done everyone who entered.

Parents/carers/children of Park Street - keep your eyes peeled over the next week as an exciting email should be arriving with a new event planned to celebrate our love of Reading and Writing. This is a new celebration on the Park Street calendar and staff are already excited to see the wonderful response to our new challenge!
Today marks National Poetry Day across the country. In school, we have been busy celebrating the special day in lots of ways. Miss Baxter and Mrs Lawson have been busy holding assemblies with our Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 classes to share the day and enjoy a poem or two together. Children have also been busy knocking down the door of Team CB to come and read a poem with adults when they have had a spare second. It has been lovely to hear the children read with such confidence and expression.
We are also holding a Poetry competition within school, tied in to the theme for this year "the environment" by asking our children to create a poem about Autumn. This will be judged by our Arts Council, and already some of the entries we have received have been to an exceptionally high standard - judging will definitely be challenging! In Literacy, all classes in Key Stage 1 and 2 have been working hard on creating their own poems. Each class has has a different poetry focus, with Year 2 doing shape poems, Year 3 doing rhyme poems and so on. The children are very proud of these and can't wait to share them with wider school later in the term! |
