During this half term, the school have been working hard to develop and refine their transcription skills. Generally, through school classes have focused on writing an instructional text and descriptive piece. In Team JF for example, the class have created their own tin birds and a set of instructions to accompany this linked to their class book The Tin Forest. In Team CB, the class have wrote an exceptional piece on a wolf based around Inside the Villains and Team JD have been describing the scene from the Lost Thing. Be sure to check out class "Handwriting Heroes" displays to see just how incredible their finished pieces are!

Thanks to pupil voice, we have been busy in recent weeks making some exciting plans to further raise the profile of writing across the school. We are in contact with a local poet with the hope of him attending Park Street in early 2023 to help inspire a love of poetry across the school, just in time for World Poetry Day.
Plans are brewing for parent workshops early in the Spring Term where parents will work alongside their children in a creative writing project run by class teachers. More details to follow! We are also working hard to develop handwriting expectations and are considering ways in which we can get children to rainbow write for a purpose. Be sure to keep an eye out for details on the blog for further information. What an incredible end to the week! Today marked the first "We love words" day at Park Street and what a success it was. The whole school looked absolutely outstanding dressed as their words. Costumes were planned with the greatest care and exceptionally creative. Throughout the day just a few of the words spotted were "Entomology", "Fragile", "Identical" and "Counter shading". Children truly rose to the occasion and awards were given for most best costumes and best word. Most importantly of all, the school was a buzz of noise around new words and their meanings. Children relished participating in their vocabulary parade (some were even spotted strutting their stuff in the nature reserve) and demonstrating what their word meant. Thank you Team Park Street for ALWAYS rising to the challenge. We loved to hear you all teaching, learning and applying new vocabulary!
Just a quick reminder, that next week is our very first "We love words day". The children through school are so excited about this event and I have heard the secret whisperings of some of the outfits that they intend to wear and I am certain it will be a phenomenal day. For anyone wishing to gather further information, attached is the letter which has gone out around the event.
