Team AC and Team CB learnt all about what life was like in Britain from the Stone Age to the Iron Age, during the first part of the school year. The children discovered how even though their topic was based around history, they were still learning about Geography at the same time. This allowed children to understand how their curriculum links together in a variety of different ways. The children used modern day and historical maps to locate their own local area, as well as further away as Skara Brae. The children focussed on the location of Skara Brae using compass point knowledge and map skills, and how this location can be found in the Orkney Islands, Scotland! The children also learnt about who the Romans were and why they invaded Britain, Teams AC and CB, experienced being a Roman for the day at Murton Park, establishing more of an understanding of why the Romans invaded and occupied Britain. Upon returning to the classroom, the children used maps to locate the countries invaded by the Romans, expanding the Roman Empire, and were able to state the continent / continents that the Roman Empire encompassed.
