Wow! The children in Teams JD, DB and HG have been super busy during the Autumn term. The children have been learning all about Europe and discovering the different countries that make up the continent. The children studied hard to locate the various countries, by using their map skills digitally, using globes and in books, to be able to complete their own maps. The children were already aware of the term European Union, but came to understand that the UK were no longer a part of the Union, but this did not stop them being part of the continent. The whole year group were amazed to learn that Russia was also a part of Europe, and had many questions regarding the conflict between the Ukraine and Russia. We decided to study six major countries for the children to learn about, developing an understanding about different cultures, climates and cuisines, taking part in a food tasting session with foods specifically coming from that region. They also focussed upon the key topographical features found in these localities. Following this the children looked at the water cycle and the effect that this has on land changes over time. Towards the end of the Autumn term, the children in the three year groups, developed a more indepth understanding about Greece and how the similarites and differences between modern day Greece and Ancient Greece. The children superbly used their history knowledge to help them with this, and we were all amazed at the buildings or ruins that are still a part of the Grecian landscape still today! We are really excited to share our learning with you below.
