All About Us!

Shooting Stars are learning and talking lots about their families this week in nursery. They have shared the book "Love Makes a Family" which has all different kinds of families in it. Lots of the children have brought in family photographs from home and have loved sharing these with their friends at group time. They have been able to talk about who is in their photo while their friends listened carefully. The photographs are now on display in the home corner to promote talk as the children play. They will also be talking about who is older and who is younger to support the children's early understanding of History. 
At carpet time, they have been using the "Singing Hands" to help them learn Makaton signs for the different family members. This really supports the children's developing communication skills and helps everyone to be able to communicate with each other. 

In their provision, they are exploring the following:
-using mark making to create faces of different family members in the paints and the mark making area.
-exploring cutters of different family members in the play dough area.
-lots of books about families have been added to our reading garden.
