Black History Month

This week the Rainbows have been learning about two very important people and have celebrated their achievements!

The first person they learnt about is Sir Lewis Hamilton. They know that Sir Lewis is a Formula 1 driver and has achieved lots of trophies. They know the Queen even knighted him because he has made such a positive impact in the sporting world. The Rainbows watched a video of Sir Lewis when he was just seven years old and was on Blue Peter racing his remote control car. They know he worked very hard, even when other children weren't very nice to him and he overcame all the difficulties to be an amazing F1 driver. They coloured in some pictures of Sir Lewis to help develop their motor skills.

This years Black History month theme is "Saluting our Sisters" so Rainbows also learnt about Aretha Franklin, a very famous singer from Detroit. They know she worked so hard to be singer at her fathers church and everyone loved her voice. She travelled around different churches singing and eventually got a record contract and her songs are still  listened to around the world. They learnt that it was hard for Aretha to sing where she wanted to, and to get a record contract. The Rainbows were proud that she entered the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame too! They listened to one of her songs called "Respect" and know that she wanted to be treated the same as everyone else which is why she sang the song.

The Rainbows said they enjoyed celebrating the lives of Sir Lewis and Aretha Franklin.
