Over the past few weeks Team CW have been seeing how food changes over time. In separate sealed bags they placed a slice of bread that had been handled, a piece of bread straight from the packet, a strawberry, an apple core and a banana skin.
Over a few weeks the Rainbows used magnifying glasses to see how the food changed over time and discussed what they could see. There didn't seem to be much happening at the start, and the processes of change were very slow, then suddenly lots of changes seemed to come at once. Comments from the children included "It's gone furry," "The bread has got green, brown and yellow bits growing on it!" "The strawberry is brown and there is lots of juice coming out of it," "The strawberry has nearly disappeared!" and "the banana skin has gone brown and black!" The rainbows could see that the bread that was handled very little did not change much at all but went very hard. They knew that bacteria had grown and changed the food and it was dangerous to touch. Here are some photos of what happened.
