Early Years children begin learning about history by first learning about themselves, their family and their community. Developing and securing this knowledge enables them to progress onto learning about things that happened in the past.
This week Team EO's learning has been focused around the question “What jobs are in the community?”. They started the week reading ‘When We Grow Up’ by Melanie Walsh which introduced them to a variety of jobs and explained what these jobs involved. Following on from this the children used the stem sentence “When I grow up I want to be…” with their talk partners and then shared their ideas back as a class. Team EO have lots of ambitious careers such as ballerina, rockstar, vet, doctor, teacher, engineer, builder and firefighter to name a few. They also listened to the stories ‘When I Grow Up’ by Tim Minchin and ‘A Superhero Like You’ by Dr Ranj. As part of their learning this week their home corner was turned into a bakers, they have been junk modelling emergency vehicles and drawing pictures to show what they want to be when they grow up!
