Today the History Ambassadors met to discuss the pupil voice questionnaires. It was a really interesting exercise and brought up lots of good points about history in school, and some points we can discuss and work towards changing in the future.
Here are a few of the positive things we found; - Most children enjoy history and their favourite topics are The Egyptians, Vikings, Romans and the Stone Age period. -Children enjoy special learning days such as history days. -Children could say that history is important because it helps us understand the world now. - They could recall some facts from previous learning, including topics in previous years. Here are some points we would like to improve in the future; - when asked about the skills historians need some children found this tricky to recall. - Lots of children are really interested in the Vikings and would like the opportunity to learn more about them (including seeing a real Viking long ship.) -Some children are interested in topics that are not covered at school and would like the opportunity to learn about them. The Plague was mentioned a few times, as was historical natural disasters. -The children would like more historical trips or visitors in school to support learning. There is a lot to talk about and decide what actions we would like to put in place so the ambassadors are going to meet again after half term. We also spoke about our significant individual dress up day after half term. The ambassadors are keen to teach the younger classes about their character and had the opportunity to research them. Keep revisiting the blog to find out more!
