During the spring term Year 6 have explored the life and times of the Ancient Egyptians. They started by looking at the geography and chronology. They looked at where Ancient Egypt would come on their class timeline and considered when it was in relation to other historical periods and people they had covered. They compared ancient and modern maps and explored implications of position on land use. They were lucky enough to visit Tut 22 an exhibition at Experience Barnsley. They have looked at the work of famous archaeologists such as Howard Carter and influential historic and modern archaeologists. Egyptologists from Barnsley (Joann Fletcher and Ernest Jones). They have explored the importance of evidence and sources. Some of the key areas they have learnt about include: structure of society, religion and beliefs, importance of preparation for the afterlife, land use, leisure, roles of different individuals, importance of the pyramids, innovation and legacy. Pupils have had the opportunity to generate their own enquiry questions and carry out research. They have also made links across the curriculum and through conceptual learning.
