This half term, we have watched videos of Scottish dancing and listened to traditional Scottish music. We compared this to Irish dance and music, and discussed the similarities and differences. We thought carefully about the position of our arms and feet when performing our routine.

Team CB had the opportunity to go out onto the sports courts and participate in a field hockey lesson. We began with holding the stick correctly and then moved onto dribbling. Everyone kept the ball really close to their stick which highlights they have good control over the ball.
Following on from this, we moved onto working in pairs, passing the ball to each other using a good technique. The children soon realised how important it is to stop the ball. The pupils noticed that putting the handle fully on the floor ensured the ball could not get under the stick. Well done Team CB on a fabulous hockey lesson, it was a pleasure to coach the session. Mr Smith During Autumn 2, the children listened to music by the composer Vivaldi and used movement and dance to create a sense of Autumn Leaves falling from the trees. We discussed musical terms such as ‘tempo’ and ‘mood’ in order to help them listen with purpose and feel the music.
Near Bonfire night we worked as a class to create a bonfire and firework dance using Katy Perry's, Firework song. The children we able to perform for each other and to give praise to each other after the performance or offer ways in which a performance could be improved. Yesterday, Year 1/2 SA participated in a fitness circuit outside. Some of the stations included ladders, hurdles and sprinting. The attitude of every single pupil was amazing. They worked so hard individually and collectively within their groups. After the children had worked for a minute and fifteen seconds on each station, they moved around in their groups to the next activity. Lots of team work and communication skills were used!
After the circuit we discussed as a whole group, what was happening to our body during exercise, then what happened to our body after we had finished. Some of the answers were "Our hearts beat faster when we are exercising, then it starts to slow down after we have finished". Another pupil said "When we are exercising, our face becomes more red!" Well done Year 1/2. Mr Smith Just Dance Club is underway for the final time this term. Thank you to all the children who have been committed to attending the club for the past few weeks.
If you would like to sign up next term, then look out for our letter which will be sent out during the first week of Spring 1.
