Maths
This week in maths, Team JF have started exploring fractions! We initially centered our learning around what is a fraction? Here we were able to become familiar with how fractions are formed and the role of the numerator and denominator. From this, we progressed into unit/non unit fractions, identifying the difference between them. Finally, we identified fractions on a number line and took on the challenging task of those fractions beyond 1 whole. These were testing tasks, however, the children demonstrated great resilience and a fantastic 'can do' attitude towards their learning. Literacy In literacy this week, Team JF watched a clip of an amazing discovery archaeologists had unearthed from the Bronze Age. After much discussion we believed this finding was incredibly important and that many more people should be made aware. From this we began thinking of how we could report these findings to others and decided on writing our own newspaper reports. As we had established our purpose for writing, we then moved into analysing a variety of newspaper reports in order to pick out the key features. We finished off the week by focusing on headlines with the children picking out an image to create their own.

Maths
This week in maths Team JF have been busy exploring Miss Fury's sweet shop. The children have proven they have excellent understanding of the place value system and can apply their skills when adding and subtracting money. As the week went on Team JF worked in pairs taking on different roles becoming a customer or shop assistant. The children worked really hard to master to two step problems they were presented with and thoroughly enjoyed their time in the shop! Literacy/History This week Team JF have combined literacy with their history topic of the Stone Age. The children started the week by researching the three eras of the Stone Age starting with the Paleolithic, moving into the Mesolithic and ending with the final era, Neolithic. From this, the children turned their facts into informative sentences in order to create their very own factual leaflets to be presented in our school library. The children have put lots of effort into their writing and have taken great care using their purple pens to edit and improve their pieces. I cannot wait to see their final published versions when they are finished next week! |
