What a week!

What a fun packed week Team JF have had!
History 

This week, year 3 took part in their history day with the theme of 'flight'.  Throughout the day the children rotated around different activities to  develop their knowledge of the Wright brothers, researching key questions such as;

• What did they invent and why?
• How long did it take them to succeed
• Who and what inspired them? 
• How has their invention impacted our lives today

Alongside this, the children had the privilege of two special guests  to discuss their careers and how flight has evolved over time.  This gave the children the opportunity to deepen their understanding and ask any burning questions they had! 

Finally, we finished off our day with the children experiencing what it would be like to fly a real aircraft. Mr Whittaker kindly allowed the children to sit inside a small aircraft he had designed and built which was amazing!

Literacy
 
As part of put exciting new unit of work, we had a very confusing visit from two people who appeared to be Romans. After much commotion, they left and we began exploring who they were from the clues they left. After much discussion, we discovered they were in fact Romulus and Remus.
 
From this, we read the myth of Romulus and Remus and developed our understanding of what a myth is and why were they written?
 
Throughout the week, we decided we needed to get to know Romulus and Remus a little better and worked in groups to act out scenes from the book and created word banks to describe the brothers. . In order to do this successfully we had to take on the role of different characters and use our inference skills to determine what they could have been thinking or feeling at that time.
 
Maths 

In maths this week we have continued our learning around measurement. we have moved into converting lengths using m,cm and mm. The children have worked extremely hard on some challenging conversions and have shown great resilience by not giving up. from this, we moved into comparing and adding lengths with different units of measurement.  Next week we will continue working with measurement but will move into subtracting lengths and measuring perimeter.
