Daily Mile Trial

To support with mental health and wellbeing, on Thursday we would like to invite all pupils and staff in school to come in some sort of sportswear. Taking the current weather into consideration and the need for ventilation around school, we would advise that children come dressed appropriately in something warm, for example sports jogging bottoms and a sports jumper. If any children want to attend their Zoom call in sportswear too, then that would be great!
 
Over the past couple of years, we have tried different ways of getting the daily mile into the school routine – which so far has proved to be a bit tricky. On Thursday this week, we are going to have a trail of how we could run the event.
 
During the afternoon, some year groups will have a go at the daily mile on the school courts, during an allocated time slot. Mr Smith will be marking out the route for the children, the idea being that the children run, jog, walk and keep moving during their allocated time. Staff will be joining in also, encouraging lots of sports discussion and language during the mile.
 
Unfortunately, not every year group will be able to use the school courts. The safety of the children and staff in school is paramount and therefore we need to ensure teams stick to their allocated time slot in order to minimise any risk of bubbles coming into contact with one another. However, we do not want any child to miss out and therefore staff will be ensuring all children in school get to engage in some form of physical activity throughout the day, equivalent to the time that it would take to complete the daily mile. Likewise, we do not want our remote learners to miss out either and therefore if children at home would like to complete a daily mile/physical activity and share this through Seesaw, that would be fantastic!
