Tomorrow marks National Poetry Day across the country. Schools around the UK will be celebrating some of literature's finest poems and the theme for this year is vision. With so many different forms of poetry including couplets, tongue twisters, shape poems, calligrams, acrostic, riddles, limericks, haiku, kennings and odes - we are taking on the challenge of exploring some of these text types further. The aim is for each class throughout school to create a poem linked with this year's theme, but covering a range of styles. We can't wait to share these with you and hope to have a display of some of our favourites very shortly!
If you want to get involved in this year's poetry day, why not challenge your family to a poetry battle? Perhaps you could have a theme of something linked to home? Good luck!

With all of our students having settled well into the new academic year, it has been lovely to see and hear of all the fantastic progress they are making towards their phonics, reading, writing and SPAG objectives. That said, we are always looking for ways in which we can further support our students and parents/carers. Attached below are a list of useful websites we have compiled which we feel may benefit children in either securing, refining or consolidating some of the Literacy learning they encounter within the classroom. We hope you find this to be a useful tool and one which encourages, motivates and engages those young minds! 
Yesterday marked an important day in the calendar for Roald Dahl enthusiasts as it was Roald Dahl Day. This day is celebrated annually on 13th September to raise the profile of the fantastic work that Roald Dahl contributed to encouraging young readers. In school, we have made sure to celebrate his valued contribution through discovering more about his famous works. Classes have been tasked with investigating one of his well known books and engaging in a lesson linked to their chosen text. Some children have been busy designing and making a tortoise linked to Esio Trot with knowledge of ratio and proportion, others have been creating their own perilous potion recipes linked to George's Marvellous Medicine. We have even had children creating their own characters who's personality does not match their appearance, much like in the case of The BFG. All in all, it has been an excellent opportunity for our students to learn more about the fantastic works that Roald Dahl produced and further their understanding of why he still remains such an influential children's author!
Yesterday marked National Read a Book Day across the country. With this falling on the weekend, we decided to celebrate the event in school today. Across the school, children have made time in the day to enjoy the simple pleasures of some of their favourite books. From fact to fiction, humour to horror, our children have loved spending time reading some of their favourite genres and getting reacquainted with some of the classics as well as exploring our new content!

As with any new school year, we are looking forward to documenting all the fantastic Literacy learning that has been taking place across our school.
