As friends, parents and children of Park Street will be aware, our reading outdoor provision was in much need of some TLC. Over the summer the paintwork was restored and now we are ready to commence phase 2 of our plans. Phase 2 involves children across school, including our Junior Reader Leaders working closely with Mrs Fitchett our Art Co-ordinator to design and bring the reading area to life. Using wooden boards, our children have been bringing ideas, drawings and artwork to life as they have included some of their favourite book characters on our boards which will form a back panel to the reading hut to really make sure all reading inspires our children at every opportunity.

Well done once again to all of our AMAZING Park Street Readers of the Week! Keep it up Park Street! So thrilled to see so many reaching their next target areas and all with SMILES on their faces! Every child a READER!
Team HG have linked their reading to their class book: Amazing Evolution. The class used pages of the non-fiction book to aid their understanding of evolution and they have found it absolutely fascinating. Vocabulary has been a key VIPERS focus. Using images and actions to develop an understanding of unfamiliar words. Retrieval has also been a key vipers focus where children have been locating relevant information beginning with reading questions effectively, identifying key information, skimming and scanning for target language and forming a suitable answer. Team HG are currently focussing on inference questions; justifying their ideas by referring back to the text. The class are also continuing to develop their fluency skills through choral reads and echo reading.
A huge well done to our Readers of the Week for this week! It is so amazing to see so many children achieving well and reading at home with their special people! Just a reminder that WPSPS expects children to read their reading book at home each evening and an adult / the child if old enough, should mark this in their reading diary! Every child has an age appropriate book and if their assessed reading age is less than their actual age, they have one at the relevant age too so as they can access this independently. Please read the age appropriate book to them if they can not access it themselves. Every child a reader!
This week in school we have all continued to work exceptionally hard in our reading. Please see our attached reading newsletter, detailing the children through school who have achieved their reading awards this week! It is so amazing to see the BIG smiles on the children's faces when they achieve each level! Thank you to parents for ensuring our children are reading at home - every child a READER! Keep it up Park Street you are doing a fantastic job.
A huge thank you to those parents who came and attended the Year 3-5 parental support workshop for reading last night. It was lovely to engage with you and share the progress we have made in our approach to reading as well as offering support and strategies which may help at home. For any who did not manage to make the drop ins yesterday we will aim to repeat this in February for those wishing to attend. Attached below are the PowerPoints from the session for your convenience and resources you may find handy. Many thanks for your continued support.
