What a delightful start to the week it has been through school as our Junior Reader Leaders have got underway with their new roles and responsibilities. After some essential training with Miss Baxter, our Junior Reader Leaders from Year 4 to 6 have been buzzing about the school corridors helping our younger readers to develop their reading skills. The corridors were filled with children reading to each other, plenty of use of my turn, your turn strategies and a general sense of sheer LOVE of reading. Some of our children have had stories read to them, while some work hard to develop their accuracy and fluency. It is simply wonderful to watch. Our Junior Reader Leader team are doing a tremendous job and we are certain you will share in celebrating their fantastic success!

From 27.09.22 our Reading Together sessions will be resuming. This is something that parents of Park Street have always enjoyed as well as our young readers, and so we are very excited to get the first sessions of the year underway. Be sure to pop back soon to see how we all enjoyed this lovely time together!
Home Readers have now been dispensed to all children throughout school. This may comprise of phonics books, books linked to your child's current stage of development and also an age appropriate text which can be enjoyed independently or modelled by parents/carers a home. Please can we remind all parents and children that books should be returned daily to ensure that these amazing resources can be read regularly through the school day, redistributed to other children once they have been read, and used to further enrich children's learning. We thank you sincerely for your co-operation as always!
Junior Reader Leaders have now been selected through school for this academic year. Earlier in the week we held our first fortnightly meeting to carry out introductions and set the agenda over the coming year. This year, our Junior Reader Leaders will be working harder than ever, supporting our younger readers, carrying out timetabled events daily to drive and support reading through school, as well as offering new and exciting ideas for how we can further enrich reading here at Park Street. Be sure to check out our Junior Reader Leader page where the minutes of our meetings can be found.
Did you know that today marks Roald Dahl's birthday - he would have been 106! Through school we have been celebrating this special event in different ways. In some classes, children have been creating their own stories based on the style of Roald Dahl, in other classes they have been creating a biography of who Roald Dahl was and what he achieved in his life. In our assembly, we read some of Roald Dahl's work to appreciate his brilliant mind! Whatever way you have spent the day, we are sure you will appreciate that the world of children's literature would look very different without the classics Roald Dahl created, often in his shed at home!
Welcome back to all our lovely students, parents and visitors. We hope you have had a restful Summer. Whilst staff have also enjoyed Summer, since arriving back to school our foot is firmly back on the pedal of supporting all of our students in becoming independent and successful readers. Reading starts from Day 1 in Park Street and Read Write Inc is already in full swing throughout school. Our children are working hard to learn new sounds in EYFS and Key Stage 1. In Key Stage 2, children are working hard on their texts to develop accuracy, fluency and comprehension skills to further support their reading. We can't wait to share the exciting things we have planned this year for reading!
