Literacy
This week in literacy the children were introduced to a new unit of learning, non fiction. This began with the children exploring a number of text types and identifying their purposes. After we established what non fiction texts were, we worked in groups to pick out their features. From this, we decided to link our literacy with our geography topic and write our very own information guides about a country in Europe. As a class we voted for the topics we wanted to write about ready to begin researching next week! Not only did the children have a fantastic attitude towards their learning they amazed me with their technical skills! Maths This week in maths we have finished off our first unit of place value. Here we explored rounding numbers to 1000. Alongside this, we positioned numbers on a number line, including negative numbers! Our week ended slightly different as Team JF have been exploring Roman numerals. The children have thoroughly enjoyed the challenge of using the rules of Roman numerals to make different numbers or converting our numbers into Roman numerals. As their confidence grew, the numbers began getting larger and the children were able to transfer those skills into adding them together. The children have wowed me with their determination to their leaning this week and I hope this enthusiastic approach continues throughout the year!
