Maths
This week in maths Team have transformed into times table wizards! We have been focusing our learning on the 2,5 and 10 times tables. To begin with, we looked at making groups of 2's, 5's and 10's practically to understand how to count in multiples. From this, we were able to write down the calculation as we understood the meaning of it. As our learning progressed, we moved into using our fingers to help us count and even added in some songs to remind us :). Team JF you are all AMAZING! Literacy This week in literacy Team JF have blown me away with their outstanding vocabulary! We have been worked incredibly hard to plan our writing of the description of the wolf from Red Riding Hood. The children have started gathering some phenomenal adjectives to use in their writing to describe the wolf's appearance, movements and attitude. The children have done so well this week and I am very proud of their efforts and attitude to learning this week. Keep up the amazing work!

This week in maths Team JF have been exploring place value. We have been focusing on the value of each digit in a 2 digit number. To do this, we have had many practical sessions using the place value counters, base 10 and place value grids. The children have not only worked really hard to partition and represent numbers in a variety of ways but also explain their reasons behind this. We will continue to develop our understanding of place value next week. Literacy Wow what a week! The amazing pupils in Team JF have worked incredibly hard to write to write and publish their first piece in Year 2! The children have been writing about a special time in the summer holidays. This has not only been a fantastic way of them showcasing their fantastic abilities but a great way of sharing their time at home with each other. Keep an eye on our classroom window as these are definitely worth sharing! Maths
This week in maths, Team JF have continued exploring perimeter. We initially started by using concrete resources to measure the perimeter of a range of shapes, applying our knowledge of their properties to help us. From this, we moved into measuring the perimeter of squares and rectangles with missing sides. As the week came to an end, the children amazed me with their understanding of perimeter and were completing a range of irregular rectilinear shapes with missing side! Once again, Team JF have blown me away with their incredible determination towards their learning! Literacy This week in literacy, Team JF have started a new unit of learning-playscripts. We have used a clip from the film The Muppets Christmas Carol to inspire our writing. This week the we have been exploring the features of playscripts to include in our own. Alongside this, we have started writing short pieces of dialogue in preparation for our writing next week. I cannot wait to read the final products! Maths
This week in maths, Team JF have been busy exploring length. We started off the week by focusing on a variety of equivalent lengths such as, mm-cm, cm-m and m-km. From this, we used these facts to convert between lengths, deepening our understanding. As our learning progressed, we finished the week by applying our knowledge into problem solving. Next week, we will begin our learning of perimeter. Literacy This week in literacy, Team JF have started a new unit of learning- Diary writing. Literacy
Wow what a week! This week, we have been exploring a variety of European foods and how each dish is made. From this, we decided to write our own recipe. After some crucial voting in the classroom, it was decided we would make pizzas and made a list of the traditional Italian toppings we would need. The children were truly incredible chefs and produced some amazing pizzas, which they thoroughly enjoyed eating! Towards the end of the week, we started the first draft of our recipe and will continue with into next week. Maths This week, our unit of addition and subtraction has come to an end. As we moved through this unit, the children have demonstrated a secure understanding of adding and subtracting using the column method. From this, they have had the opportunity to apply these skills into reasoning and problem solving questions. This was a really tricky concept to determine the operation they had to do, however, the children have worked extremely hard to accomplish this and have showed great resilience towards their learning. Keep up the amazing work! Science In science this week, we have continued exploring States of Matter. The children worked in groups of 5 to plan their own enquiry to investigate whether temperature impacts the rate of evaporation. The children had to consider the equipment they required, what they would be measuring/observing, how they would present their findings and most importantly, how could they ensure it was a fair test. The investigations will be carried out next week and I am already looking forward to the results! Literacy
This week Team JF completed their information leaflets about a chosen country in Europe. The children started the week by finishing their first drafts and moved onto editing and improving their writing using their purple pens. When the children were happy with their pieces, they began publishing. The leaflets the children have created are fabulous and the vocabulary used within them is amazing! They were all incredibly proud of their work and thoroughly enjoyed sharing them with one another. Maths This week the incredible mathematicians of Team JF have been exploring addition. The children have yet again wowed me with their knowledge of the number system and the column method. At the beginning of the week, we focused on practical learning using the place value counters to add three digit numbers where an exchange is required. From this, we moved into using the formal written method to complete four digit calculations with more than one exchange! The children have demonstrated great resilience towards such a tricky concept and have risen to the challenges set. Next half term we will begin exploring subtraction. This week Team JF conducted their second investigation of the year to determine the best temperature to melt chocolate. Before we started our careful observations, we had lots of discussion around materials changing state and made our own sensible predictions. The children worked together to test each temperature, ensuring they were carrying out a fair test throughout! I have been very impressed with the scientific vocabulary the children have been using and I believe we have some true scientists amongst us! Literacy
This week in literacy the children were introduced to a new unit of learning, non fiction. This began with the children exploring a number of text types and identifying their purposes. After we established what non fiction texts were, we worked in groups to pick out their features. From this, we decided to link our literacy with our geography topic and write our very own information guides about a country in Europe. As a class we voted for the topics we wanted to write about ready to begin researching next week! Not only did the children have a fantastic attitude towards their learning they amazed me with their technical skills! Maths This week in maths we have finished off our first unit of place value. Here we explored rounding numbers to 1000. Alongside this, we positioned numbers on a number line, including negative numbers! Our week ended slightly different as Team JF have been exploring Roman numerals. The children have thoroughly enjoyed the challenge of using the rules of Roman numerals to make different numbers or converting our numbers into Roman numerals. As their confidence grew, the numbers began getting larger and the children were able to transfer those skills into adding them together. The children have wowed me with their determination to their leaning this week and I hope this enthusiastic approach continues throughout the year! Maths
This week in maths, Team JF have been exploring place value. We have been focusing on the value of each digit in 4 digit numbers To do this, we have had many practical sessions using the place value counters, base 10 and place value grids. The children have not only worked really hard to partition and represent numbers in a variety of ways but also explain their reasons behind this. Alongside this, the children have extended their knowledge of numbers by rounding to the nearest 10,100 and 1000. This was a challenge but they have demonstrated great determination to succeed! We will continue to develop our understanding of place value next week Literacy Team JF's literacy this week has been really exciting! We have started our unit of Traditional Tales. We have been using a variety of tales such as Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella and Snow White to unpick the structure and steal some ideas. We began working in groups to create our own checklist of what make a great adventure story and from this we started exploring these features. After a lot of discussion and many votes, we finally decided the plan for our own stories. We have just finished our introductions, however, I already know they are going to be amazing as the children generated an abundance of impressive ideas. |
