Today, we took on the pan pipes challenge. We made a set of pan pipes in order to create sound of different pitches, and used this to explain how to change pitch. We noticed that the longer pipes created lower sounds, whereas the shorter pipes created higher sounds.

Maths
This week, we have focussed on the formal written method for multiplication. We began the week by revisiting skills learnt last year - multiplying three and four digit numbers by a one digit number. We have then started to progress to multiplying three and four digit numbers by two digit numbers. This is something that we will need to continue working on as we are not quite secure. However, with a bit of perseverance I am sure we will get there. Literacy Throughout our lessons we have continued publishing our poems and have then presented them to one another. We have extended our poetry unit a little further also by looking at riddles and are all excited to share some with our peers. Maths
We have focussed this week on multiplying and dividing whole and decimal numbers by 10, 100 and 1000. We recognised that when multiplying we move the digits in our place value chart to the left and when dividing the digits move to the right. Towards the end of this week we then applied this to our times tables also. Literacy This week, we have planned and written our own free verse poems based on the war. Our aim was to create emotion and imagery throughout, whilst incorporating features of SPAMO. Today, we are going to publish our poems in order to perform them to our target audience. Hello and welcome back. We hope you have had a wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Maths This week we have been using our times tables knowledge and working on multiples and factors. We have applied techniques to reasoning questions and been working on our verbal explanations to explain our understanding. Literacy During our writing lessons, we have focussed on the features of poetry, in particular similes, personification, alliteration, metaphors and onomatopoeia (SPAMO). We used 'Beyond the Lines' as our hook for learning and have generated examples of SPAMO based on this video. Within our reading lessons, we began Michael Morpurgo's book, 'Private Peaceful'. We have been introduced to the main characters and been able to use inference skills to explain our thoughts about some of the characters in particular, using evidence to support our ideas. |
