As we come to the end of our first half term, I would like to thank each and everyone of you for your fantastic attitude, not only to learning but our new school routines also. You have all taken it in your stride and have settled in really well. We have already made so much progress and I can't wait to see what next half term has to offer for us as a class and a school.
Well done Team LG! Have a super holiday and as always, stay safe.

Maths
This week we have focussed on understanding and using negative numbers in context and learning the Roman numerals for numbers up to 1,000. I must say Team LG, I have been astounded with your effort and enthusiasm to learning in Maths this week - you have blown me away! Literacy We have started our new writing unit based on atmospheric writing. We watched a video called 'Dracula's Whitby', which took us on a computerised tour of the abbey. This is our hook and stimulus for writing and we can not wait! We have analysed the text features of atmospheric writing (simple and complex sentences, expanded noun phrases and imagery). On Wednesday and Thursday, we focused on identifying main and subordinate clauses, part of the build up to simple and complex sentences which we are looking at next week. Today, you will be receiving your first piece of homework on Seesaw. Please come and speak to me if you need any help in accessing this or if you prefer to have a printed copy. I am also happy to help if you need any support completing it - don't be afraid to ask.
Maths
This week we have worked on counting backwards and forwards in steps of 10, 100, 1000, 10000 and 100000. We have also looked at rounding to the nearest 10, 100, 1000, 10000 and 100000. Although we found rounding a bit of a challenge to begin with we persevered with this skill, used the taught methods and succeeded after a second attempt. Literacy During our lessons this week, we spent time editing our piece of writing based on Convict's Tunnel. We focussed on ensuring we had accurately used the features of a ghost story. We also used our dictionary skills to check the accuracy of our spellings. Towards the end of the week we have published our writing, concentrating on our handwriting and presentation skills. |
