Throughout this week we have continued working on our Place Value Unit and have focused on ordering numbers to at least 1,000,000. During our lessons we have used both concrete, pictorial and abstract methods to order numbers and finished the week by completing some problem solving questions. Literacy 'Mr Stink' has once again been the focus of our Literacy lessons this week. We began the week by discussing the purpose of an Agony Aunt and why people would write letters to a magazine asking for help. Using our knowledge of the story so far and the work we have been doing on characterisation, we identified 'Chloe's' problems and the reasons why she may need to write to an Agony Aunt. We have used this to start writing our own letters from the perspective of Chloe.

On Monday and Tuesday, we kicked off our Arts Project with an exciting trip to the RSPB Old Moor. During our visits we took part in several workshops, which included pond dipping and bird watching. Further to these activities, we also explored the RSPB Old Moor, discovered and learnt about the biodiversity in our local area. We are now using this as a stimulus back in class to produce a piece of artwork.

This week we have been working hard on learning our times tables and we have completed daily tables races, in school and at home. One member of our team now holds the quickest time of 2:45 (minutes). We have also been focusing on Place Value, particularly determining the value of digits in numbers and comparing two numbers to see which is greater. We used a mastery approach and have completed our first 'Show it, Draw it, Explain it, Prove it' grids. Literacy Throughout the week we have explored characterisation in 'Mr Stink' by David Walliams. We have concentrated on a new technique when describing characters which is known as Point, Evidence, Explanation (PEE). We wrote our first character description based on 'Mother' and towards the end of this week we have started to focus on 'Annabelle'. We are going to continue looking at characterisation next week. |
