Assessment week
A huge well done to all Team LG members for their efforts this week whilst completing assessments in Maths and Literacy. I am pleased to see how you have applied what we have been doing in class into your test answers. The hard work is definitely paying off and can be seen in your scores. Well done everyone!

Maths
We began the week by focusing on multiplying and dividing by 10, 100 and 1,000. Following on from this, we looked at applying our times tables knowledge to questions such as 6,000 x 4,000 and 8,100 ÷ 900. Towards the end of the week, we had the opportunity to work on a new skill - multiplying a four digit number by a two digit number. As this was the first time we had been introduced to this new method it was a challenge. However, we are determined that over the next couple of weeks we will crack it! Literacy Our atmospheric writing has come to an end. At the beginning of the week we wrote our final couple of paragraphs before spending a lesson editing and then publishing our work. In relation to our reading, Mrs Wilson and Mrs Knott came to watch our reading lesson on Tuesday afternoon. They were completely blown away by our hard work! Mrs Wilson was so impressed with our ability to find evidence from a piece of text and how we use the evidence to explain how characters are feeling. Well done Team LG - cracking job! Maths
During our maths lessons this week we have focused on solving addition and subtraction word problems in context. We discussed the language used in worded problems and how to decide on the operation that would be needed to solve the question. We created a list of the key words that may come up in questions and decided on whether these would relate to addition questions or subtraction questions. Literacy Following our introduction to Atmospheric Writing, this week we watched a video stimulus from the Literacy Shed known as 'Dracula's Whitby'. The virtual tour video took us on a journey through the abbey courtyard and the abbey itself. After watching the video and planning for writing, we have started to create first person accounts of the approach to the abbey. We have specifically focused on building tension through the use of sound and giving the reader hints as to what we might/might not have seen. |
