Maths
This week we started work on perimeter. We began by calculating the perimeter of rectangles before moving onto compound rectilinear shapes. As a challenge, we looked at calculating the perimeter of shapes where some of the sides had missing lengths. We found it quite complicated so it is something that we will continue working on, Literacy We have completed writing our newspaper articles and edited them early on this week. For the publishing process, we wanted to make sure our reports looked like the articles you would see in a newspaper. Therefore, we used the computer suite to type our articles and added other features such as headlines, pictures and captions.

On Monday afternoon, Team LF will be completing their Wombwell walk (weather permitting). Children will need appropriate footwear and a warm coat.
Thank you. Maths
This week we have focussed on the written method for column subtraction. We began by subtracting two numbers with the same amount of digits, before subtracting two numbers with a different amount of digits and decimals. We have applied our knowledge to reasoning questions such as explaining the mistakes of others and identifying missing digits. Literacy We have continued to read Dracula this week and have focussed on our fluency by reading the same piece of text for several days. We have worked on the vocabulary within the text and our retrieval skills, using the scanning technique to find our answers. Within our writing lessons, we have unpicked the features of newspaper reports and begun to work on the specific features used within this genre of text, such as the use of brackets for parenthesis. |
