Happy half term Team LG! I hope you all have a wonderful break but remember to always stay safe whatever you're doing. See you in a week. Miss Garratt
At the beginning of the week we looked at symmetry in shapes using mirrors. We recognised that most shapes have the same number of lines of symmetry as they do sides (e.g. a square has four sides and four lines of symmetry). We then took this a little further and began to look at symmetry of patters across a mirror line horizontally, vertically and diagonally.
We began writing our letters to Mrs Lawson, to persuade her to allow her staff to take part in the new series of 'I'm a Teacher Get Me Out of Here'. We have written an introductory paragraph, introducing the show and then three further paragraphs relating to culture, food and activities in each habitat. Next week, we will finish our letters before editing and publishing in preparation for them being sent to Mrs Lawson herself.
Please see the letter below for details of our upcoming trip to Yorkshire Wildlife Park on Tuesday 18th June 2019.
In the last couple of weeks, we have focused on geometry. We have looked at:
Regular and irregular shapes
Triangles (equilateral, isosceles, scalene, right-angled)
Quadrilaterals (square, rectangle, parallelogram, trapezium, rhombus, kite)
We considered the properties of these shapes and then used these to classify and compare. Towards the end of each week, we looked at test style questions, using our knowledge to achieve full marks.
We began looking at the features used in persuasive writing. We specifically focused on the features found in all persuasive writing (exaggeration, emotive language, rhetorical questions etc) and this week have tailored this specifically to the features found in a persuasive letter. Once we have analysed these further we will be writing our own persuasive letter to Mrs Lawson. We are hoping that we can convince her to allow staff members to take part in this year's 'I'm a Teacher Get Me Out of Here'.
