CALLING ALL MEMBERS FROM THE FOLLOWING TEAMS: Mrs Longden - The Arctic Miss Baxter - The Mojave Desert Mr Fidment - The Indonesia Rainforest This week, when completing your research for our 'I'm a Teacher Get Me Out of Where?' topic, why not start looking at the endangered species within your chosen habitat. An endangered species is a plant or animal that is seriously at risk of extinction. You could take a look at what it is that makes the animal/plant endangered and what we can do to help them. Why not have a go at the activity below afterwards? All you have to do is decorate a boiled egg to look like your endangered species. It would be great to have some facts to go alongside your decorated egg. I would love to see some of your decorated eggs and facts so please send pictures to the school email address or the school witter page. Email: parkstreet@ecmtrust.co.uk Twitter: @WombwellParkSt
STEM Science have amazing ideas, videos and resources to keep you busy for hours. Here are just a few of their fun investigations you could try at home. I would love to see how your investigations are going, Please feel free to send pictures my way by emailing: parkstreet@ecmtrust.co.uk
To support parents and carers with home learning, STEM subject experts have put together a selection of activities and materials, all of which are completely free for everyone to access. They cover various areas of the curriculum as well as cross-curricular activities (tasks that involve more than one subject). The link for their website is below.
https://www.stem.org.uk/home-learning BBC Bitesize are currently providing daily lessons that cover all areas of the National Curriculum. Open up your internet browser and use the following link: https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/dailylessons Then, pick our year group and you will see a screen that looks like this: You can click on the English, Maths or Science link depending on what you fancy studying.
For other subject areas search : https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/levels/zbr9wmn Sir Linkalot (which is a fantastic app to support spelling) is kindly giving all parents and schools free access during lockdown to enable children of all ages (4 years old upwards) to have Sir Linkalot Time at home. There will be a daily midweek 30 minute show online, starting this Thursday at 2 o'clock, on Sir Linkalot's Facebook page and Youtube channel, featuring Countdown's Susie Dent. There are two obvious benefits in using this whilst children are currently learning form home: one, it would most definitely raise their literacy levels and, two, it would make life a whole lot easier for you! It is not solely for spelling, however. It's covering the whole of the technical requirements of literacy, i.e vocabulary, homophones, punctuation, grammar, rules and patterns. So, it very much applies to older children as well.
To access the content, you can do this in one of two ways, either downloading via the App Store or on a laptop/PC. Please note, once you have downloaded the app from the App Store (small problem with Androids at the mo), tap on the log icon (for 'Log in') at the top right. You can also view it on a laptop or PC. Type in the browser itself (not a search engine)... app.sirlinkalot.org and follow the above instructions (the log icon is for 'log in'). Further information of log on details will be sent out electronically. Keep up your super spelling :) I wanted to let you know about a Kickstarter campaign that has been launched. The campaign is the #SeeSportyBeSporty Girls and Sport Poster Campaign. At Park Street, we want to help spread the word to children and parents who might like to support it too. The link to the campaign is: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/totallyrunable/seesportybesporty-role-models-posters-of-girls To help, and hopefully spread the message I’ve attached an at-home task and competition. It would be great if we had some entries from our school. If you want to take part in the competition, email or tweet us a picture of your poster and we will send it to Totally Runable for you.
You may have heard that the government has introduced a new learning platform to support teachers and parents with home learning.
If you want to take a look please follow the link below. https://www.thenational.academy/ It's great to see that many of you have logged on to Charanga and have been engaging in their music lessons. Keep up your hard work.
If you've not yet had chance to log on then not to worry, you could try and make this your aim for this week. If you can't find your username or password then contact me via the form on our class webpage and I will be in touch with your details. Please see some resources you can do at home. You can also find these on the Barefoot Computing website.
