Maths
We had a look at the short written method for division - the bus stop method. We used manipulatives to demonstrate how the method works, particularly focusing on when a digit has to be exchanged. Afterwards, we started to use the written method in an abstract form and learnt to carry our calculation into decimal places instead of leaving our answer with a remainder and before long we were looking at problems including missing digits. Literacy Following on from a reading comprehension paper about underage soldiers fighting in WW1, we discussed the opinions that different people may have about this topic (parents, siblings, the government etc). We also continued to look at features of newspapers and finished an article by writing in the missing feature: headline, 5W introduction and captions. Next week, we will be writing our own newspaper articles about the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand and the start of the war.
