Maths:
We started the week by completing 'Show it, draw it, explain it, prove it' grids to answer addition and subtraction questions relating to fractions with the same denominators. We came up with the following rule to explain how fractions are added/subtracted: 'To add/subtract fractions the denominators must be the same. When the denominators are the same, the numerators are added/subtracted.' Following this we then started to look at fractions with different denominators. We realised that when the denominators are different we have to apply our knowledge of equivalent fractions to make the denominators the same. Once we have found the lowest common multiple, we then have to change the numerators before we can add/subtract them. At first we looked at some simple questions before we changed the context and had to build fraction pyramids. Literacy: In Monday's assembly, Mrs Lawson set us the challenge of writing a newspaper report to explain all the activities that took place on Red Nose Day. During our first lesson this week we planned out what we wanted to include. Towards the end of this week, we started to write our reports, however, this will be something that continues into next week. Once we have finished the reports we will have the opportunity to edit and publish our newspapers in best. A winning report will then be chosen (by Mrs Knott) to be filmed - like a broadcast - and published on the school website. Mrs Lawson is also going to choose a couple of other reports to also be uploaded onto the new website.
