Maths
During our lessons this week we have consolidated our knowledge of column subtraction, focusing on questions that contain two five digit numbers, questions that contain a five digit number subtract a four digit number and questions based on decimals. As we had remembered all tips given to us before the holidays we were super speedy. So, we were able to quickly move on to subtracting across zeros. This is something we have found a little more challenging. However, we are persistent and we will master it! Literacy Throughout our lessons this week we have worked on identifying features of newspaper reports. We recognised that quite often sentences in newspapers contain additional information in brackets and we learnt that this is called parenthesis. We were given the task of identifying if brackets had been used correctly and then had to input brackets into sentences of our own. In addition to this, we have been conducting research about Lundhill mining disaster in preparation for writing our own news articles. Today, we were lucky to listen to stories from Mrs Greenhalgh who grew up within a coal mining family. She told us all sorts of information and opened our eyes to a world that is completely different from our own.
